Welcome to Faction Focus — a new series on Warhammer Community exploring the various armies battling for the fate of the Mortal Realms as we get ready for the launch of the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.

Stormcast Eternals are immortal warriors from Azyr that wield the holy power of the storm. When a soul in the Mortal Realms lives a just and true life, upon death, they can be called to Azyr to serve in the armies of the God-King, Sigmar.

Each Stormcast Eternal is armed with inviolate sigmarite plate and weapons, and enhanced with a range of powers — from vastly increased strength to more unusual abilities, like detecting lies, projecting bolts of lightning or negating dark magics. No two Stormcast Eternals armies need ever look alike.

Age of Sigmar/Tactics/Order/Stormcast Eternals

The rank-and-file of the Sacrosanct Chamber are Sequitors. Like Liberators, these warriors are the line infantry of their respective Chamber but specialise in fighting magical foes, like Daemons and Nighthaunt. They have a few magic powers of their own, too — each was a mystic, priest or mage in their former life and now possesses the power to channel energy to their shields or weapons where needed. Armed with sword and stave, the Evocators can enhance the abilities of other warriors of the Sacrosanct Chamber with powerful spells.

Castigators are crossbow-wielding warriors who fire crystalline bombs charged with Dracoth breath to obliterate both conventional and ethereal foes alike — like the Sequitors, they can charge their weapons with lightning when the need arises.

The Celestar Ballista is the first ever Stormcast Eternals war machine. Armies from the Sacrosanct Chambers are commanded by Lord-Arcanums — veteran magi with a mastery of soul-craft.

Having overseen the Anvil of Apotheosis — where the souls of dead Stormcast Eternals are reforged to life, the Lord-Arcanums heal their fellow warriors and return them to battle nigh-instantly. Many Lord-Arcanums ride celestial beasts into battle. The Sacrosanct Chamber is sounding pretty cool — but how do they work in battle?

After much thought, he came to realize that in order to defeat Chaos, he had to drop the mantle of God-Warrior, but instead become the God-King. Over the centuries, he snatched up mortals that still defied against the Dark Gods, even though they were born knowing only them.

Through his divine magics and the help of Grungni, he forged a near-immortal army that stood a chance against the daemons and corruption. Thus, the Stormcast Eternals were born, justice and vengeance incarnate! Hey everyone! For Sigmar! Heavily armored and tough, they are an elite army where even their most basic troops that can stand toe-to-toe with the most monstrous of units.

Well balanced in all of the Combat Roles Tank, Support, Striker, Flanking, and Tech and having some nifty rules for being summoned, they are a great addition to any army of Order, or even Destruction. The first Hero for most SE players, he is a solid model for a starting army. Besides just his Lord of the Host Command Ability, he can also support your other units in combat with his Storm Breath, staying behind your lines and plinking off enemy models and reducing number of attacks they would normally be taking.

When you combine all of these attributes together, the best way to use them is to place him around the middle of your army, slightly behind your lines. The Lord-Relictor is a personal favorite of mine, mostly because he is what I wish Chaplains would be in 40k.

He is alright as far as his stats go, but is a bit slow and just okay in combat. But his real strength lies in providing a lot of support for one unit through his prayers: Lightning Storm and Healing Storm.

Lightning Storm is great for those D3 mortal wounds, but the real beauty of it is the -1 To Hit rolls debuff that he applies to that unit.

It makes Monsters and Heroes less scary in combat, and lesser units will struggle to even get a wound on your models. Great for keeping your other Heroes, like the Lord-Celestant above, in the thick of fighting. But because of his slow speed, he is often paired up with your Paladins: Retributors, Protectors, and Decimators.

Also, it cannot be overstated that another strength of his is having the Priest keyword. One of the MVPs of Sigmar, indeed! The bread-and-butter of the Stormcast Eternals, they will often make up most of your army, considering that this faction is Elite in nature, and will benefit from having a more defensive force in general.

They have the option of dropping the shield to dual-wield weapons, which give you another option when adding on to your army and you plan on making your force more offensive.

When dual-wielding, they reroll 1s to hit, making them really reliable against the mentioned units. Personally, I would keep the unit at their minimum of 5 models, with the Liberator-Prime equipped with the Grandhammer or Grandblade to take advantage of his 3 attacks. Retributors are to Liberators as Terminators are to regular Marines.

However, the mace does not have an Attack value, so the Retributor-Prime gains no additional benefits with it, so give it to one of the other models. But what scares most opponents is their ability to inflict a lot of mortal wounds. So a roll of 5 becomes a 6, and a 6 becomes a 7. Keep the objective in mind. Like other Stormcast Eternal units, best to keep them at minimum squad size. They have the one advantage that the rest of the army sorely lacks: speed.

If you sorely need more Tanks, then the Sigmarite Shield is the way to go. But having dual-hammers makes them ideal for aiding your units in combat from a distance the rerolls for 1s affects both melee AND ranged attacks or for getting a few hits in before charging. They can also have the Grandblade or Grandhammer for every 3 models, which I would give to the Prosecutor-Prime.Cue the power-metal.

Lore Tactics General Tactics. As will be made evident many times over, they're literally just Space Marines transplanted into the Age of Sigmar, in purpose An elite military force of engineered super-soldiers, personally designed by a god-ruler to be his warriors to combat unfathomably terrifying Lovecraftian horrors that normal men would simply despair atmodel design bulky dudes in all-enclosing, easy-to-paint armor with huge pauldrons for kids to freehand designs on to make themselves feel special and being shoved down the throats of the entire hobby by GW's marketing department.

Two more strikes for or against, depending on your view them are the fact that some of them have crossbows that resemble bolters and the winged ones resemble some of the Blood Angels models.

Their fluff origins, on the other hand, do give them some important differences from the autistic warrior monks we all know and love. Instead of distant super-warriors that are barely even humans, Stormcasts function more like a nation-spanning order of knights under Sigmar, who performs his will where needed - they are all warriors, but can have regular functions like being administrators and noblesbut also builders, artisans and guards. They consider themselves largely apart from the common folk, but not by much; more like a stronger version of a human but with more responsibility to use it well.

They are the Fantasy Space Marinesthe Warriors of Order - Nobledark once-dead warriors filled with lightning while wielding hammers, thunder, lightning strikes, and full-body armor adorned with hammers decorated with thunder-lightning. They are made from exceptional mortal heroes taken away at the time of their death or the height of their power by the God-King Sigmar and infused with his own Divine Essence and given fancy new weapons and armour made of Sigmarite.

The universal trait to all the Eternals is that they opposed Chaos whenever it appeared, though certain chambers work on minor details like faith or vengeance. Currently there is no evidence on whether or not there are non-human Stormcast Eternals, maybe the aelfs and duardin gods don't like Sigmar taking their people's souls, or perhaps Sigmar gives priority to humans, after all, he is in a way human too.

It should also be noted that all Stormcast Eternals have the human keyword. For awhile the only named characters presented so far were originally male humans but then a female special character was introduced in Neave Blacktalon.

Other than that, there is a story where Sigmar cries over the fact he couldn't save a warrior maiden from getting tortured and killed by the forces of Chaos as he still hadn't completed the teleporting device which allows him to take away potential candidates for Reforging. In Godbeasts it is stated that the entire Household of the Royal Victrians were spirited away and turned into Stormcast Eternals, quoting it: "Reforging every man and woman into Stormcast Eternals" and the Sacrosanct chambers are pretty equal opportunity.

Considering that the process of making a Stormcast is more mystical than any genetic modifications and that the person in question will still remember who they were before the Reforging, it is still possible that any non-Chaos mortal could become one, and there is even a former Chaos Champion of Nurgle that Sigmar purified into becoming his own Champion.

The only real specific that is considered is that the inhabitants of the Realm of Death tend to become Lord-Relictors, who are able to see the spirits and thus are able to anchor his kin to Sigmar's Realm of Azyr. That said, however, the Eternal part of their name is rather relative: Their souls are constantly coveted by Nagash because he considers anything dead as his, and the supply of Sigmarite is technically limited as it's basically the core of the old Warhammer world.

Still, each reforging takes supplies and more of the Stormcast's memories, feelings and general personality is lost due to Nagash taking pieces of their souls each time they die Sigmar eventually figured out Nagash's skulduggery and decided to have a nice little chat with the Great Necromancer about the issue.

Nagash, being Nagashis less than willing to change his ways. Then Nagash figured out how to take the whole soul Aside from stomping Chaos, their main goal is uncovering the Realmgates: Portals to other Realms. By securing them, they gain another route back to Azyr or to any of the other realms, so a small retinue of Stormcasts has to stay behind to guard it, until the Freeguilds old Empire models, now a unified army can secure land and begin to rebuild.

Aside from all that, Stormcasts aren't actually all that holy or magical when it comes down to it; they are about as powerful physically as a Chaos Warrior, aside from the "cannot completely die" thing and due being infused with the magic of Azyr they have considerable immunity to any corrupting magical force, but can still be zapped by normal Chaos magic if strong enough. Unlike Chaos Warriors, who are fanatically devoted to Chaos and often outright insane, Stormcasts are still very much human, or whatever race they were before.

And while their main portrait is of honorable warriors they still need to eat, to sleep although, like the space marines, they can endure far more than common mortals and have desires like anyone else.

They're also anatomically correct but, like Space Marines, the functionality of their peepees or, unlike Space Marines, vagoos wasn't expounded on. For awhile the only hint in lore was in the novel "Lords of Undeath" where Neferata had a private chat with a Lord-Celestant, who upon seeing her in a revealing dress privately reflected that while he was above temptations of the flesh he intellectually appreciated her efforts at seduction.

Unlike Space Marines, it was later confirmed in the short story "The Lightning Golem" by Nick Kyme that Stormcast Eternals are capable of sexual intercourse and do so to varying degrees; a Lord Veritant Issakian is depicted waking up up after an eventful night with another Stormcast, a female by the name of Agrevaine. However, this does raise further questions Are Stormcasts Eternals fertile? The list goes on.

Unlike some Chaos Warriors their armour and faceplate can be removed, although they seem comfortable wearing them to not to need to remove them for weeks on. Another trait of the Stormcasts is that not all of them were warriors during their mortal lives, instead all of them chose to make a stand against Chaos, from a general or a king to a smith, a philosopher, a baker, a housewife, a farmer or even a beggar, they faced the forces of the Dark Gods in doomed fights and were found worthy by Sigmar.

They are also able to have normal lives because they are allowed to not be on permanent service, so they can gain political and hierarchy positions, as well as highly entrusted professions, and hang around with mortal friends and even their descendants.

Stormcasts see themselves as saviors first of all, trying to defend others successfully, when they had failed to do so in the past. That said, some have a tendency to get lost in revenge, seeing only the destruction of Chaos as a viable way of atoning for past transgressions.Hello, this is the general Tactica dump for the Age of Sigmar armies, units and rules.

AOS is streamlined, faster, and easier to get into. Just don't mention the dark early days of rage, pain and suffering. All games consist of multiple usually two Armiesplaying out the narrative given in a Battleplan. Each unit in an army will have a Warscroll describing its own abilities and special rules.

Additional abilities are given for grouping certain units which are usually found in Battletomes. A Battleplan will state which set of Battle Rules to use in addition to setup, objectives, victory conditions and any special rules.

There are various Play Types each with their own style tournament, narrative, league etc and set of Battleplans.

After the first initial round where either yourself or the Opponent takes the first turn subsequent rounds are randomized on who will take the initiative for that new battle phase. The game is split into multiple phases, like Fantasy, but these splits are a bit different. The player decides to cast Mystic shield and fails so can not cast it again this turn it's on cooldown or something and so decided to cast arcane bolt for extra damage instead. Generally, people play using the points system introduced in the Generals Handbook.

Age of Sigmar/Tactics

This limits you to choosing your army from either a single faction plus optionally some allies from a restricted set or one of the Grand Alliances Order, Chaos, Death or Destruction. By choosing a faction that has a Battletome you'll receive additional bonuses. The official Warscroll Builder can be an easy and effective way of building a roster.

Technically, nothing in the core rules limit your model choices and thus can field anything from any army alongside each other. While this can create interesting thematics, such as oldschool Morathi armies using Dark Elves and Daemons or Chaos Magic Sigmarines, if you play this way you should expect players to be grizzled sex pests, and prepare to fight fire with fire if you know what I mean.

They recently got an update as of February and another intactical page in the process of being updated. The new book in included the vanguard wing auxiliary chamber, rules for using specific Stormhosts and new battalions. Also included are new warlord traits, relics, prayers for your priests read Lord-Relictor and Lord Veritantand mount traits to make that Stardrake an even bigger threat.

The book released in introduced the Sacrosanct Chamber. Mostly comprised of warrior wizards but also contained the Stormcast's first dedicated artillery piece and accompanying engineer style hero to go with it. Stormhost rules were overhauled, two new faction-specific lores were added in addition to three faction-specific endless spells.

A nice little bonus that makes your Sigmarines just a little bit harder to kill as they rush into combat from deepstrike. Keep in mind that this battle trait only affects units that arrived "that turn", meaning on yours, when you dropped them. The effects are no longer in effect when your turn ends. If your army is a Stormcast Eternals army, you can give it a Stormhost Keyword. Furthermore, it's worth noting that unlike 40K Chapter Tactics, picking one of these forces your General to take a unique Command Trait, and "the first hero to receive an Artifact of Power" so probably your General again is forced to take a specific unique Artifact that only that specific Stormhost has access to.

In other words, while you gain a new special rule and a unique Command Ability, you are forcibly locked in for some important decisions. It's up to you if you want to be more freeform and have more choice with your Command Traits and Artifacts, or play with a specific Stormhost.
